Engine Diagnostics

An Engine Diagnostic (or Scope Test) determines what corrections are required during a tune-up to get your engine running smoothly again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s included?

Computer analysis of spark plugs, ignition wires, the distributor cap, rotor and coils, as well as the oxygen sensor and fuel injection system, are all included in an engine analysis.

Additionally, we also:

  • Check the vehicle’s computer for fault codes
  • Visual check to confirm the condition of the PCV valve and fuel filter
  • Check the engine timing (where applicable)
  • Examine the starting and charging system
  • Complete a detailed written Vehicle Inspection Report.

When to have this done?

At your vehicle recommended spark plug service interval, as specified in the owner’s manual, or when experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • ‘Check engine’ or ‘Service soon’ warning light is illuminated
  • Engine is running rough
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Engine Diagnostic Test

Why is this important

If the ‘Check Engine’ light comes on while driving or remains on, it is a warning of emissions or sensor problems and should be analysed. If the light flashes, the condition is more severe and must be checked immediately to prevent catalytic converter damage.
